Ballestas Islands

A naturalistic treasure composed of barren islands, inhabited only by sea lions, penguins, sea lions and migratory birds. Where the man is not allowed.

There are 3 islands that make up this small archipelago: Ballesta Nord, Ballesta Centro and Ballesta Sud. They are the same ones that form part of the Paracas national reserve.
You can see a fabulous marine fauna from close by, like large colonies of sea wolves on the beach and on the rocks.
It is also possible to see groups of Humboldt penguins in small caves as well as a wide variety of coastal birds and Guaneros birds such as cormorants, seagulls and other Guano-producing species: best natural fertilizer known to date.
With the advancement of ecological agriculture the Guano of the Ballestas Islands is one of the most sought after in the world. Its collection is strictly regulated and can only be done manually every 10 years.
